Battle Log
How to Play

The Dungeon

Each room has 4 cards. Resolve 3 of them — the remaining card carries into the next room. Survive until all 44 cards are gone to win.

Card Types

Monsters ♣ ♠ — Fight unarmed (take full damage equal to the card's value) or fight with your weapon (see below).

Weapons ♦ — Equip to use in combat. Reduces damage: you take max(0, monster − weapon) instead of full damage.

Potions ♥ — Heal HP equal to the card's value, up to a max of 20. Only one potion can be used per room.

Weapon Binding

The first time you use a weapon in a fight, it becomes bound to that monster's value. From then on, you can only use it against monsters of equal or lesser value. Equipping a new weapon clears the binding — but you must discard the old one.

Example: equip a 7♦, fight a 5♣ — weapon binds to 5. Now you can't use it armed against a 6♣ or higher. Fight unarmed instead, or find a new weapon.

Running

You can flee a room before resolving any cards — all 4 are discarded and 4 new ones appear. You cannot run two rooms in a row.

Play With a Real Deck

Take a standard 52-card deck and remove these 8 cards:

Remove all diamond face cards & ace: J♦ Q♦ K♦ A♦

Remove all heart face cards & ace: J♥ Q♥ K♥ A♥

You're left with 44 cards. Shuffle and play — black cards (♣ ♠) are monsters (face cards and aces are the toughest!), diamonds 2–10 (♦) are weapons, hearts 2–10 (♥) are potions. Original game by Zach Gage & Kurt Bieg.
